It’s almost time for the kids to head back to school, which means it’s a great time to update school shoes for your child’s growing feet!

Watch the video below where we discuss how to tell if a shoe has good structure and why it’s important for developing feet.

Things to consider when buying school shoes:

  • Uniform requirements
    • Can your child wear a runner? Is black leather lace-up prefered? T-Bars for girls?
  • Activities and surfaces
    • E.g. running on ashphalt v. sedentary use only
    • Some traditional school shoes are not made to last the distance with running and playing. Brands such as Ascent create school shoes with cushioning and structure comparable to a running shoe disguised as a school shoe (the best of both worlds!) to facilitate running, jumping and playing!
    • A PPU outsole will ensure that the underside of the shoe won’t wear out quickly with lots of running around!
  • Orthotics
    • Does the shoe need to accommodate an orthotic? The Ascent and Asics range (including T-Bars!) can all accommodate a flexible orthotic device (gap free for children with private health insurance) to optimise foot function!

Where can I get these shoes?

It’s very important with growing childrens feet to have them measured and fitted everytime they are getting a new pair of shoes. Always buy in store and locally if possible, Active Feet carry both the Ascent and Asics range in store.
